Drilled Shaft in Israel

This is a bored pile, 1.5 m diameter and 22 m deep. The site is in Herzlia, Israel. The pile was constructed with a slurry consisting of bentonite and e-z mus polymer. This defect was detected at a depth of 1.5 m below the top, by the cross-hole system (you can see the pipe in the photo). It is unlikely such a defect could be detected by the sonic (pulse-echo) methods: it is too small in relation to the total cross section, and too close to the top.
